완장의 나라: 완장의 권력과 디자인문화사

Brassard Design : History of the Symbolic Power

 

 

이 글은 완장의 디자인사를 통해 한국 사회와 문화에 내재된 권력의 문제점을 비평한다. 이를 위해 필자는 완장의 형태와 특성을 역사적 맥락에서 짚어 보았으며, 완장이 권력의 상징적 의미를 획득해 나가는 과정을 면밀히 살펴보았다. 또한, 완장의 시각성이 상징권력으로 점차 내재화· 비가시화 되는 과정을 살펴, 소권력의 한계와 문제점을 지적하고자 하였다.

 

This paper traces back the changes in the meaning of brassard, classifies its visual features according to the historical context and examines the phenomenon that how the word “brassard” obtain its unique meaning as a symbol of authority in Korea. In addition, this article further attempts to point out the limits and issues of micro power around the brassard by going through the process that how the visuality of the brassard has become invisible and internalized as symbolic power.
