전공소개 Introduction
오늘날 디자인의 역할은 지식정보사회의 도래로 인해 기존의 조형중심적 생산 활동의 수준을 넘어서 학제간 이론, 역사문화적 담론 생산과 비평 및 소통의 범위까지 확장되고 있습니다.
이러한 환경적 변화에 대응하고 지역적 특수성과 세계적 보편성 및 사회적 공공성에 기초한 주체적 디자인 담론을 생산하기 위해서는 디자인의 역사/문화적 맥락에 대한 학제적 접근이 필요합니다.
이에 서울대학교는 사회적 요구에 부응한 학술적 토대를 마련하고 학문 후속 세대 및 해당 전문가를 양성하기 위해 대학원 디자인학부 내에 교과과정상의 전공으로 <디자인역사문화> 전공을 2012년에 서울대학교 대학원에서 신설하게 되었습니다.

Introduction
Along with the advent of a knowledge-based information society, the role of design which conventionally had been limited to the production of plastic activities, has expanded its spectrum ranging from dealing with everyday lives to the production of interdisplinary theories, histo-cultural discourses and criticism.
So as to respond to this change of circumstances and to produce independent design discourses based upon both local specificities and global universalities as well as social-public concern, an interdisciplinary approach regarding the historical/cultural context of design is required.
A curriculum of Design History and Cultural Studies major was established as a graduate program for SNU’s MFA and Dr.Design in 2012. The aim of the major is to provide an academic foundation meeting new social expectations and to educate future academic generations and experts.
