일제 강점기 타이완 아동 잡지 책 표지 디자인: 『학우』 의 책 표지 중심으로
Children’s Magazine Cover Design in the Period of Japanese Occupation of Taiwan: A Study of ‘Xueyou’ Magazine Cover Design

이 연구는 1919년 1월부터 1919년 11월까지 아동 잡지 『학우』 책 표지 디자인을 중심으로 하여 1898년부터 1922년까지의 교육정책의 시대 배경을 살펴보았고, 이를 통해 잡지의 탄생 배경과 잡지의 디자인 및 내용을 이해할 수 있었다. 1897년 7월 타이완 총독부는 『타이완 공학 교령臺灣公學校令』를 반포하였고 타이완 학생에게 일본어 교육이 공식적으로 크게 퍼지게 되었다. 『학우』는 일본 강점기 시기, 타이완에서 발행된 아동 잡지 중에 유일하게 완전히 보존된 잡지이며 잡지 편집인은 식민지 개척자의 신분으로 타이완으로 이동해 잡지 등 문화영업 분야에서 활동하였다. 마지막으로 잡지 내용과 잡지 표지 디자인을 분석하여 디자인이 대만에 일제 강점기 교육정책을 어떻게 반영하는지에 대해 탐구해 보았다. 일본어, 근대적인 수신, 일본 역사 방면부터 ‘국가 정체성 인식’을 키우고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 군국주의와 충군애국의 의식을 주입하여 타이완 아동의 일본식 국민정신을 만들려고 하는 욕망을 보여준다.
오늘날 타이완의 국제지역문제와 민족 감정 등의 이슈에서 일제 강점기의 영향이 크게 남아있다고 본다. 이 연구는 작은 매체물 아동 잡지를 통해 당시로 돌아가 그 영향의 원인을 찾아보았다.
The study was based on the magazine cover of 'Xueyou', Which is a children's magazine published from January to November 1919. First, the Taiwanese education policy of 1898 to 1922 was reviewed to understand the background of the magazine's birth. In July 1897, the Taiwan governor's office issued the Taiwan public school order. Hence, education of the Japanese language became the official education subject of Taiwan school. ‘Xueyou’ magazine is the only fully preserved children's magazine published in Taiwan during the Japanese colonization period. The editor of the magazine came to Taiwan as a colonialist and engaged in activities in the cultural fields including magazines. Finally, the research on the content and cover design of ‘xueyou’ magazine was analyzed to see that the cover of the magazine was in line with the education policy at that time. It was identified that the policy was reflected in the magazine as for the Japanese language of Taiwan students and the cultivation of national identity. This can be seen as instilling the sense of militarism and patriotism to Taiwanese children so that they are raised to have mindset of Japanese citizens.
Today the Period of Japanese Occupation still has an influence up on Taiwan’s international, regional and national sentiments issue. This paper is go back to find the reason.
